Another important aspect of the game is position. Players in late positions have a huge advantage over those in early positions. They can more easily manipulate the pot on later betting streets by raising with a strong hand and folding when they are weak.
In the earliest stages of a hand, players will usually check their cards. This is to see if they have a qualifying hand. Once everyone has checked their cards, the betting begins. Players who are in the early position are called Early Position, while those on the button are in Late Position. Those in Late Position are the last to act before the flop. Those in Middle Position are the first to act after the flop. This is a great spot to be because you get to see what everyone else is doing before you act. This gives you a lot of information about your opponent’s strategy and allows you to put the odds of making a good hand in your favor. You can also use this position to try and steal a few chips from your opponents by calling re-raises. This is especially effective when they are bluffing.
